If you read my About Me (worth a click), you’ll know that outdoor pursuits are a must-have for me to achieve balance.

Sometimes that’s running an ultra, getting my ass kicked in a triathlon, or simply walking the dog. But when I can combine my love for the outside with creative problem solving, well, it’s a chance to make those experiences even better—for everyone. Here’s a sampling of some of that work.

Yurbuds

In the pre-AirPods era, sport headphones were a risky purchase decision given the limitations of fit, comfort, and performance. Plus you couldn’t try them on in-store, a serious barrier that Yurbuds (part of the JBL family) asked us to tackle. We prototyped a number of options, ultimately landing on two tactile options for retail installation that helped to tell the product story and differentiate Yurbuds from the rest.

Team Offsite

Nothing brings people together like the outdoors. And whiskey.
And making fire with tampons.

We had a group of 24 creatives who didn’t know each other that well—so we set out to change that. We contracted local survivalist, Hutch, for an overnight wilderness skills training; we teased our adventure with themed weekly hints to drum up excitement; we orchestrated transportation to put random individuals together—complete with a get-to-know-you quiz and curated playlist. And it was magical. Not only did we learn how to conjure fire, purify water, build shelter, and orient ourselves—we bonded as a team far away from the confines of the office. And there was only one stabbing.

WildEarth Guardians

When we’re not out enjoying the outdoors, my family is usually trying to save it. For me, that meant helping with the branding and messaging for WildEarth Guardians, a nonprofit that focuses on water, wildlife, climate, and public land issues of the West.

50K

I pulled this together after completing my first ultra. One’s gear can make or break any experience, but it also projects a lot about the owner. Over time certain items might have changed or upgraded, but the sentiments still ring true.
